Hip Hop

Available for all ages from Tiny to Senior

Hip Hop is a fun, vibrant and energetic genre which brings to life the playful attitude, fierce choreography.

Routines emphasise the street style movements with an emphasis on execution, style, creativity, body isolations and control, rhythm, uniformity and musical interpretation. Teams may also put an additional focus on athletic incorporations such as jumps, jump variations, combo jumps and other tricks.

Pom

Available for all ages from Tiny to Senior

Pom is a high energy and fun style of dance, showcasing the athletic dance ability of athletes.

Pom poms must be used for 80% of the routine. Important characteristics of a pom routine include synchronisation and visual effect, clean and precise motions, strong pom technique, and incorporate dance technical elements.

Cheer

Available for all ages from Tiny to Opens

Cheer opens up a world of possibilities for athletes, with a range of positions required in each team to bring together the high energy, focused and humble champion cheer team we aim to be. With so many elements to a cheer routine from stunting, jumps tumbling and end dance. You have 2:30 to showcase all of these skills in a high energy, high intensity routine.

Cheer encourages team work, discipline and fitness. Your child will learn the true meaning of being a team member when they are placed in a cheer team.

Dance (Lyrical & Jazz)

At MCPD we not only have Dance which provides athletes with a Lyrical and a Jazz routine, we also offer a Part-Time Dance Program aimed at High School students who can implement Dance in to their curriculum. As a fundamental part of what we love to do, Dance is a great foundation to build on for all athletes.

JAZZ : A jazz routine incorporates stylised dance movements and combinations, formation changes, group work, leaps and turns. Emphasis is placed on proper technical execution, extension, control, body placement and team uniformity.

LYRICAL : A lyrical routine uses organic or traditional modern or ballet vocabulary as it complements the lyric and/or rhythmic value of the music. Emphasis is placed on control, sustained, expressive movement, body placement, and contraction/release, use of breath, uniformity, communication and technical skills.

MCPD Cheerleading Flyers & Tumblers Newcastle

Flight & Tumbling - Cheerleading Essentials

All of our competition cheerleading teams are required to attend one Tumbling class per team. In these classes you will learn the art of tumbling and how to safely progress through the levels with proper technique.

If you are in a Flyer position, you will also be required to attend a Flight class each week. In these classes you will learn how to stretch safe to gain the flexibility needed for these in high demand positions.

MCPD Ballet

Ballet

Some of the benefits of ballet for kids are:
* They learn to follow instructions
* They gain a sense of discipline through learning new positions
* They learn co-ordination, balance and how to control their bodies in motion.

As a child continues with ballet, you will start to see more benefits emerging – especially when they become adolescents and into the teenage years.
* They develop long and strong muscles from the practice of ballet
* They gain a sense of self-confidence and pride in their bodies and what they can accomplish
* They learn how to work to get what they want out of their performance
*The skills learned in ballet are useful for other forms of dancing like tap, jazz and cheerleading if they want to take that up later or already do so now.

Toddler Tumble

New to MCPD in 2024, Toddler Tumble will be held twice per week, on Wednesday’s and Saturday’s, and is available for age 18 months - 4 years.

Toddler Tumble is a movement program designed to promote the development of the whole child socially, emotionally, cognitively and physically through play in a safe, structured multi-sensory environment. This program encourage trust, co-operation, communication, exploration and discovery, listening skills, sharing and turn taking with plenty of opportunities for your child to work towards improving gross and fine motor skills, co-ordination and all areas of their social, emotional, cognitive and physical development. Classes are fun, playful and challenging and involve a mix of guided discovery, and group time.

Tap

Tap dancing uses special shoes that create sounds based on the specific moves. Children generally respond well to tap dance as they can basically use their shoes and bodies to act as drums and enhance the music they're dancing to. They will learn how they can use their feet to create unique sounds, and have the ability to sit tap exams at the end of each year.
